Mayor Jay L. Jones and Village of Allen Tree Board Members are proud
to announce that for the eleventh year in a row Allen has been named a "Tree
City USA." The Tree City USA honor comes from the National
Arbor Day Foundation, a non-profit education organization dedicated to
tree planting and environmental stewardship. The major projects of the village
of Allen's forestry program is:
- Historic Tree Grove, which entailed planting 34 trees in various locations throughout the village.
- Allen Nature Grove, located west of town.
Allen Community Club also works on community improvement projects. Their projects include:
- Building a gazebo on Allen's main street next to the Fire and Rescue Building
- Repainting the newly acquired Burlington Northern Caboose at the Allen RV Park
- Welcoming new families to the community with Allen Welcome Packets
- Supporting the community with children's activities
- Sponsoring Allen Clean-up Day
- Doing numerous other projects which improve quality of life in the village
There are a variety of other service and social clubs in town including:
- Legion Post
- Historical Society
- Quilt Club
- Saddle Club
- 4-H clubs
The First Lutheran and United Methodist Churches also play an important
part in the community and school activities keep everyone busy. Allen Day Care
provides child care in Allen, and offers preschool instruction during the school
year. Finally, the Senior Center is a hub of activity for older residents.
The center is also a nutrition site which serves noon-time meals and "meals on
wheels" during the week.
Allen works hard to provide services for all ages. Whether you plan to make a return visit or a permanent move, Allen has a great deal to offer. Come check us out! Allen - "A Family Town on the Grow - Branching Out to Welcome Others."
